About Born to be Wild in Bude

My name is Sue Gear. I have been living in Bude, North Cornwall, for 18 years with my husband Barry, and my two lovely boys, Jack 21 and Billy 19. I have always had a passion for wildlife and animals and from a young child I used to horrify my parents by taking home every waif and stray and wildlife that I thought needed rescuing.

Now days I try to stop people picking up wildlife because I think we all interfere to quickly, thinking we are helping. Often we are doing more harm than good! A lot of young wildlife gets picked up even though the parents are still taking care of them.

But sometimes we have to interfere. There is always the occasion when our house pets bring in a wild animal alive and in need of help! As far as I’m concerned, ‘where there is life there is hope’. I am fortunate as I work in a vetinary practice and get great help from the vets as they know I will take any casualties home and give them bed, breakfast, medication and rehabilitation. And then hopefully release them back into the wild, as all I want to do is give these creatures a second chance. That is the best I can do for them.
